1. It rained cats and dogs last night. 昨晚雨下得很大。
Rain cats and dogs 是一句非常受歡迎的俚語，幾乎每個學英語的學生都懂得用 rain cats and dogs 來形容雨下得很大。當然如果你不想用俚語的講法，你可以說：”It’s raining really hard. (雨下得很大) “或是”We’re having a heavy rain.” 同樣也是”雨下得很大。”
那”雨下得很大，我被淋成了落湯雞”這整句話要怎麼講? “落湯雞”在英文裡常用 “I am soak ed.” (我濕透了) 來形容，所以整句話就成為. “It’s raining cats and dogs out there so I am soaked.”
2. We had a downpour . 我們剛遇到了一場傾盆大雨。
中文裡常形容下雨像是用”倒”的一樣, 這在英文裡也有同樣對等的字眼喔! 英文裡用的是 downpour 這個詞。所以”下雨像是用倒的”我們可以說：”We had a downpour.”
另外有一個十分口語的講法就是 “It’s really coming down out there.”，也是形容雨下得很大, 像是用”倒”的一樣。3. It’s just sprinkling . 只是在下毛毛雨而已。
在英文裡不管下”毛毛雨”或是”毛毛雪”我們都可以用 drizzle 和 sprinkle 這兩個動詞來表示。Drizzle 這個詞就是氣象術語”下毛毛雨”的意思，而 sprinkle 則是一個動詞表示”撒”， 但也常被用來形容毛毛雨，常聽到的用法就是：”It’s drizzling.” 或是 “It’s sprinkling.”
另外還有一個詞叫 scattered rain，指的則是”零零星星地降雨”。例如：”We have to cancel the track and field contest because of the scattered rain. (因為零星的降雨所以我們必須取消田徑賽)”

有的, 你可以對她說“I have a crush on you.”crush 用在電腦上代表著當機, 用於交通工具上代表著發生事故, 用於對人的方面則代表一見鍾情.
*用在電腦上:The system was crushed this morning. (系統在今天早上當掉了).
*用於交通工具上: That car crushed into the shop.(那輛車衝撞入商店裏).
In 1998, an airline crushed in Da-Yuan. (1998年, ㄧ架飛機墬毀在大園).
Many passengers were killed in that train crush.(很多乘客在那場火車意外中喪生).*用於對人的一見鍾情: I have a crush on you/her/him.(我煞到你/她/他).

Say “you know?” after a few statements…to affirm them.
Say “here” like “heeeeeeeya”
Say “afterwards” like “after woods” — no “r”s usually in most ‘wods’
Milk can be “melk”. Squirrel is “sqwerrel”. End-sounds, the ends of words change.. like “lend” becomes “lent”, “burned the toast” is always “burnt the toast”.. sometimes the words change totally, like “oil” is “earl” (in that older accent), 2+ words blend into one, like “did you eat yet?” becomes “jaeatyet?” and “did you boil it” is “didjya berl it” (even better for that script)…
There’s MORE.. but the accent you need isn’t a heavy, 30s-50s “brooklyn accent” — it’s more of the Woody Allen-ish, jewish sort of inflection for the Brigthon Beach of “then”, more than now.. which is more Russian. (The old neighb of Simon/author.) So, your voice should be higher as you come to the end of a question..as in: “do you think I knooooow?” The typical characterization of the Brooklyn accent, is a sort of ITALIAN version of the Flatbush, Bug Bunny-esque, Brooklyn Dodgers-fans, of wiseguys movies, etc.
– When in fact — John Travolta is from Belleview, New Jersey.
– Rudy Giuliani left Brooklyn when he was 6 yrs old (!!).
– And many people (today) that have that accent, are actually not from Brooklyn in the least, maybe neither their parents — but are from “new jersey” and “long island” and “westchester” where many families moved to, during the 60s and 70s. they put on the accent, same as you would for a play — only they’re playacting for an IDENTITY that they wouldn’t have.. when you meet one say, in an airport and they say they’re “from Brooklyn” when in fact, they’re from Edison, NJ (it happens).

身邊是不是有很多愛講笑話、可是講出來的笑話卻一點都不好笑的朋友？這幾年台灣很流行講「冷笑話」，這種笑話一講出來通常會讓空氣當場凝結，讓人忍不住大喊「好冷喔～～」。至於「冷笑話」的英文該怎麼說呢？a cheesy joke（劣等的笑話）、a bad joke（爛笑話）、a dumb joke（蠢笑話）、或是 a lame joke（聽了很無力的笑話）是也。
A: Josh just told me that “6 is scared of 7 because 7… 8… 9…” （註）
B: What?… Don’t mind him. He loves to make cheesy jokes.
A: 喬許剛剛告訴我「6怕7，因為7吃掉9」啦…
B: 瞎米？… 別理他。他就是愛講冷笑話。（註：7, 8, 9 發音與 seven ate nine「七吃掉九」一樣）

在非正式的英文場合中，常會聽到老美使用 “kind of / sort of” 這類不太營養的詞語，西方稱這種詞為 “filler” (填塞詞)。”kind of /sort of” 有時意思很明確，有時卻又很模糊，端看說話者當時的口氣與上下文的對應關係。版主今天收到公司老美總裁的季報演講稿，內容是老總與主持人的訪談記錄，版主發現老美很愛用隨口丟出 “kind of /sort of” 這種片語來混時間 (想不出該說什麼) 或者刻意傳達模糊的印象。網友請見下例：
Yeah, I think it’s a good idea. Those things could be the stories driving the company’s culture. You know, sending in your best stories or anying that you find interesting that relates to what’s marketable. What I think what we are trying to do now is put the downturn kind of behind us, and I think we’re kind of digging out.
Demetri Martin 是 Comedy Central 的脫口秀演員，他曾經說過一個段子，譏諷 “kind of / sort of” 已經被許多老美用爛了，箇中意思已變成漿糊一樣模糊不清。

代表囧［冏］的意思英文有：Awkward, Abash (使…羞愧，使…臉紅)；abashed (侷促不安), Disconcert, Deadlock, Dilemma, Embarrass, Embarrassed, Plight, Poor situation, Predicament, Hard-pressed

天壤之別可以說：night and day。例句：The progress difference between the recent and the past is like night and day. (最近的進步與過去相比有若雲泥之差。)
